Subaru Natsuki is pulled off a convenience-store run into a royal capital he does not know. A silver-haired girl and her catlike spirit pull him out of a mugging, and he tags along on her errand through the slums. The day keeps resetting whenever he dies, and he has to learn the city's dangers fast enough to keep her alive until morning.
Subaru takes a servant's post at a countryside manor so he can stay near the girl who saved him. The household is kind by day and lethal by night: something in the mansion, or around it, is killing the staff on a schedule he cannot explain. He has a week to find the cause before the loop closes.
A royal selection brings Subaru back to the capital as a self-declared knight. Court politics, a hunt for a legendary beast, and a cult that already knows his name force him to ask for help he once refused. Saving one person is no longer enough; the kingdom's next disaster is already moving.
Subaru is sent to a barrier village where a locked tomb tests anyone who wants to leave, and a contract keeps the rest of the land on a countdown. Allies at the manor and in the woods all want different endings. He has to pick a future that does not erase the people he promised to protect.
A city of canals hosts a gathering of candidates, merchants, and old enemies. What starts as a festival turns into a siege when several disasters hit the water gates at once. Subaru has to hold a city together with people who do not all want the same victory.
A watchtower in the desert is said to answer any question, if you survive the climb. The trial is not only sand and guardians: memory itself becomes unreliable, and Subaru has to reconstruct who he is from the people who still remember him.
Subaru is thrown into the Vollachian Empire, a country that solves problems with swords and succession crises. Cut off from the kingdom and from people who know his secret, he has to survive an imperial civil war long enough to find a way home — and to keep a quiet girl beside him alive in a land that eats the weak.
The emperor's name is now the battlefield. Subaru's patchwork army, imperial generals, and a disaster that will not stay in one city collide as Vollachia's throne fight reaches the capital. Saving the empire is the only path that still leads back to the people he left in Lugunica.
After the empire, a different kind of hunter takes the road: someone who knows Subaru too well and will not let him keep the life he rebuilt. The chase cuts through allies and landscapes he thought were settled, and the nameless star of the title is a person whose light is aimed at him.
The story returns to Lugunica's royal selection with new claimants and old debts. Subaru is no longer only a knight on the sidelines: the kingdom's next crisis is tied to the lion king's land, to people who should be allies, and to a threat that does not care who sits on the throne.
