What happens
Maomao is taken from the pleasure district and sold into service in the Inner Palace. Her knowledge of medicine exposes the cause of the emperor's children's illness, bringing her to the attention of Consort Gyokuyou and Jinshi while a succession of palace cases pull her farther from the quiet life she wanted.
